A group of 4 players tried Wheedle, the new Knizia card game
that I had played with 6 before. This will remind the old-timers
of Pit -- a free-wheeling and boisterous card-trading game.
Cards represent stock in 9 different companies, but some companies
have only 5 shares, some 7 shares and some 9 shares. After
the cards are shuffled, one is placed face down on the table
and all the rest are dealt out. When the dealer is ready,
he turns over the card on the table and everyone immediately
and simultaneously starts verbally negotiating card trades.
On agreement, cards are exchanged. Anything goes here -- unequal
trades and even giving cards away. Besides trading, a player
can swap a card for the one on the table by putting one of
his our face up and taking the former center card. When a
player yells “STOP!” trading ends. The face up card on the
table indicates the company that went bankrupt. A bonus of
5 points is awarded for calling STOP and having all the shares
of a company in your hand. Two points per card is awarded
to any players who have all the shares for a company. One
point per card is awarded to players who have the majority,
but not all, of the shares in a company. Players lose 1 point
for each share in the bankrupt company. If you yelled STOP
by mistake and don't have all the shares of any company in
your hand, you lose 5 points! The group rated this party game
a solid 8. Most families will find this
game easy to learn and fun to play. Another winner from Knizia
and from Out Of The Box Games.
