It seems Out of the Box knows how to pack
a whole lot of game into an inexpensive price point. $14.95
feels just about right for the what gamers get in
this box. The art is by John Kovalic and the components
are high quality. The game should be laid out for
customers to see. It’s Out of the Box, a company
which excels in offering fun, party games at low
prices and where the quality of the components never
seems to suffer. The company has a loyal following,
and having Kovalic and Knizia attached to the project
won’t hurt either. Tutankhamen comes from Reiner
Knizia which means once again we have a thin overlay
of concept where players are asked to make resource-management
decisions. After a while the players in the games
I played gave up depositing the coins into the pyramid
since the concept slowed down the game – although
children should enjoy the concept. We did have doubts
that the lower age limit of 8 was realistic. Combine
archeology with Out of the Box, John Kovalic and
Reiner Knizia and you get the very pleasant Tutankhamen. The game won’t change the world but it should
be a nice addition to your family board game section.
