RULES VARIATIONS
"Great Minds Think Alike"

If the great minds in your gaming group are thinking too much alike, then consider this variation which limits the number of times a bidlock can be re-bid.

The first time a bidlock occurs, the bidlocked players pay the penalty and re-bid normally. However, if the re-bid results in a second bidlock, the bidlocked players pay the penalty, the Resource Card goes into the bank, and the bidding ends.

Thanks to Alan Emrich (and the great minds in his gaming group), for this suggestion

"Lightning Strikes are Free!"

Whenever a player wins the bid by playing the only Lightning Strike card in the row, he or she wins the resource card for free!

Thanks to Shipwrecked designer, Matthew Kirby, for this suggestion.

"Shipwrecked: The Board Game"

For this variation, you will need to add the following components to your SHIPWRECKED game:

Setup:

  1. Sort the resource cards by color. Shuffle them and place them next to the board by the side indicated.
  2. Shuffle the bid cards together. For 2-players use 2 sets of bid cards. For 3-players use 3 sets of bid cards and for 4-players use all of the bid cards.
  3. Give each player the number gemstones indicated in the original rule book.
  4. Place player tokens on start. Randomly choose who goes first.

Game Play:

At the start of your turn, roll the dice and move that many spaces on the board. Follow the rules indicated for the square:

Resource Squares (You have two options):

  1. Buy a resource of that type directly from the bank.

    Or

  2. Flip over a resource card of the designated color. If you choose to buy it, pay the bank the value shown. If it is a Hidden Treasure card, then give the bank 3 gemstones and take the next card. If no other cards remain then you can not use this option. If you decide not to buy the resource place this card in the bank.

Note: If you have already collected enough points in this resource type, then you are NOT required to do either option.

Special Squares:

Hidden Treasure: Draw a bid card. If Pass then do nothing. If Stop, then receive 1 gemstone from the bank.If Strike, then receive 2 gemstones from the bank.

Chest: Collect your income. If you desire, you may also sell any resources to the bank.

Swap Property: Draw a bid card. If Pass, then do nothing. If either a Stop or a Strike then choose a player and swap a resource with that player. You get to choose which resource you want first, then they get to choose any other resource of yours.

Bandits: Draw a bid card. If Pass, then do nothing. If Stop, then lose a random resource (collect the value from the bank, and shuffle this resource card back into the appropriate resource pile). If Strike, then lose a random resource. Do NOT collect the value. Shuffle this resource card back into the appropriate resource pile.

Wishing Well: Draw a bid card. If Pass, then do nothing. If Stop, then toss 1 gemstone into the "well", otherwise known as the bank. If Strike, then toss 2 gemstones into the "well".

Any: Choose any resource type that you wish.

Start: Roll Again or choose a resource to sell to the bank.

Winning the Game:

The first player to collect the required points in each resource category wins.

2-Players: 60 points in each category.
3-Players: 40 points in each category.
4-Players: 30 points in each category.

Thanks to Seth Tabberer for submitting both the rules and board graphics for this suggestion (Revision 1.0.1).
