The Object of MixUp™
Be the first player to complete a row of four, or
a two-by-two square, of game tiles using either a common
shape or a common color.
Setting Up
- Remove the cover from the back of the game
board, empty the game tiles onto the table, and
insert the cover into the slot on the back of the
game board, as shown.
- Place the game board between
the two players.
- Place all the game tiles, face
up on the table, within easy reach of both players.
- Determine which player will try to win using
the colors on the tiles. Give that player the Color
Marker showing the three colors. The other player
will get the Shape Marker showing the three shapes
and will try to win using shapes. The marker tiles
are only used to indicate who is playing “shape” and
who is playing “color.”
Playing the Game
Color
One player will be playing “color.” This
player will attempt to win the game by completing either
a row of four tiles, or a two-by-two square of four
tiles, of the same color, regardless of the shapes
on the tiles. A row of four may be horizontal, vertical
or diagonal.
Shape
One player will be playing “shape.” This
player will attempt to win the game by completing either
a row of four tiles, or a two-by-two square of four
tiles, with the same shape, regardless of the color
on the tiles. A row of four may be horizontal, vertical
or diagonal.

Sequence of Play
- The person who is playing “color” selects
a tile from the table and slides it down any one of
the seven channels.
- The person who is playing “shape” selects
any one tile, EXCEPT for a tile with the same shape
as the one already on the board, and slides it down
any one of the seven channels. After this tile is
placed there are no further restrictions as to what
shape or color may be played by either player.
- Players continue placing one tile into a channel
per turn, until one player has completed four in
a row or a two by two square. See the examples above.
- Tiles
must always slide to the lowest available spot in
the channel.
- Once a tile is placed it may not be
moved.
Winning the Game
The first player to complete a row of four, or a two-by-two
square, using either shape or color wins MixUp.
If a
piece is placed which results in a win for BOTH players,
the player who placed the piece wins the game.
