Like tic-tac-toe or Connect Four, but looking
for a little more challenge? MixUp is a two-player
game with one player choosing colors and the other
choosing shapes. The object is to get four of a
kind together, but in the attempt you may accidentally
help your opponent.
The game works a lot like Connect Four, with game
tiles depicting three shapes – moon, lightning
and raindrop — in three colors – blue,
green and red. The tiles slide down into the gameboard
which has seven rows, stacking on top of one another.
Players try to create either a row of four or a
set of four (two-by-two square) of one shape or
one color. This means, however, to play that red
moon you might be placing two red pieces next to
one another, or two moons together, so you might
be adding to your opponent’s set while completing
yours.
This is a quick game, and the pieces are
really nice quality. The plastic game board also doubles
as a container for all of the tiles, which is a
nice feature. MixUp is designed for two players
ages 8 and up and plays in about 15-20 minutes.
The game retails for $19.99.
