LetterFlip is a quick word game where players guess
letters and then unscramble them to guess their opponent's
hidden word—it’s right up Angela's alley.
What do you get when you cross Battleship with
Hangman? You get LetterFlip, a fun two-player game
where you try to guess your opponent’s hidden
word.
The game is simple, and only takes a few minutes
to learn. Each game comes with two "Letterflippers"—one
for each player. The Letterflipper has a card slot
and one flippable tile for each letter of the alphabet.
The game also comes with two-sided LetterFlip cards.
Each card has four 3-6 letter words on both sides.
The object of the game is to guess all of the words
on your opponent's card.
Both players begin with a three-letter word. Player
1 starts by guessing a letter. If that letter is
part of Player 2's word, Player 1's turn continues.
Play carries on in this fashion until Player 1 guesses
incorrectly.
If Player 1 guesses an incorrect letter, he flips
down the tile for that particular letter (so that
he knows to not guess that letter again), and it
becomes Player 2's turn.
After a player has guessed all the letters in a
word, he may guess the word. He can also guess the
positioning of a letter. For example, if a player
is working on a four-letter word, and he knows the
letters are C, H, I, and T, he could ask a question
such as, "Is the first letter I?" This
question can be asked as many times as needed in
order to figure out that the word is ITCH. (However,
if the player gets the positioning wrong, he loses
his turn.)
Once a player guesses the word correctly, he flips
all of his tiles up and tries to guess the next word
on his opponent's card in the same manner. The game
is over when one player successfully guesses all
the words on the other player's card.
This game is great. It's quiet and low-key, and
it really makes you concentrate. One
of the best things about it is the portability—since
all you really need are the cards and the LetterFlippers,
you can play it anywhere. And you can make the game
more or less challenging, depending on your needs—if
you’re a real word whiz, you can try to guess
the harder words on the second side of the LetterFlip
cards, or you can just stick to three and four-letter
words if you’re playing with younger kids.
