Cover Up is a two-player, four-in-a- row game from
Out Of The Box. While Mix Up (another such game from
Out Of The Box) added shape versus color to the basic
game play, Cover Up adds depth... literally. Cover
Up is your basic “get four pieces of your color
in a row before your opponent gets four of theirs
in a row” type of game. The board is a 5 by
5 grid. So far, this all sounds familiar, right?
Now for the difference: At each position of the grid,
you can play any of three sizes of disk – small,
medium, or (you guessed it) large. You get five smalls,
four mediums, and three larges. The trick is that
a medium disk can cover a small disk, and a large
disk can cover a small or a medium (or both if the
medium was covering up a small). Add to that the
ability to move one of your large disks on your turn,
and you have it. The game is well made from the packaging
to the playing pieces. The board itself is an attractive
and durable plastic. The playing pieces fit in a
compartment on the bottom of the board. The pieces
are nicely smooth and rounded and even have a little
weight to them... a very nice touch instead of just
throwing in 3 sizes of tiddly winks. If
you’re
a fan of four-in-a-row games” or would like
a game that is quick, easy, and can be played while
you’re also paying attention to something else,
then you’ll enjoy Cover Up. If your kids have
ever asked you to play tic-tac-toe more than once,
then they’ll love Cover Up.
