Cineplexity Variations
Cineplexity is versatile! Try the following variants
for new Cineplexity fun. All you need is the Cineplexity
deck and, in some cases, a timer.* Standard Cineplexity
rules apply for allowable titles and for the role
of director.
*If a player disputes whether another
player's answer is correct in any game with a timer,
the matter should be decided "off the clock."
The Lone Arranger
Players: Single Player
Level: Any
Cineplexity Player
Needs a 5-Minute Timer
Multiple players can follow the same rules, playing
simultaneously. The first to complete the set of
four wins!
Draw ten cards, either face-up on the table or into
your hand. The object is to assign these ten cards
to four movies, with one movie being described by
four cards, one movie being described by three cards,
one movie being described by two cards and one movie
being described by one card. The player must assign
all ten cards within five minutes. If the player
cannot identify titles that work for all ten cards,
any number of cards may be discarded (all at once)
and replaced by an equal number of new cards. This
replacement may only be done once and it must be
done within the five minutes.
Match Point
Players: Two
Level: Expert Cineplexity Players
Determine who will serve first. The game is structured
like table tennis: one player serves the first five
points, and then the other player serves the next
five points. The server takes a deck of Cineplexity
cards and "serves" the top card to the
other player who, within ten seconds, must name a
movie described by that card. If successful, that
player “lobs” it back to the server who
then has ten seconds to name another movie described
by that card. Play continues back and forth until
someone cannot answer, or answers incorrectly. The
winner of the volley is awarded the card and it counts
as one point. The first player to earn at least 21
points, and a 2-point advantage over his opponent,
wins Match Point!
If any person or people in your group consistently
win Cineplexity, you may want to consider the following
variant:
Triple Feature
Players: Four to Ten Players
Level: Mixed Level Cineplexity Players
The "expert" players are each dealt one
card, face-up. These players must match three cards
in order to score -- both the Cineplexity cards in
the center of the table, plus their face-up card.
When these players score, they take the face-up card
as their "point" and replace it with the
card just awarded from the center of the table. The
card from the center of the table becomes the new
face-up card for that player.
Howdy, Partner
Players: More than Four Players
Level: Mixed Level Cineplexity
Players
Team up less experienced players so that they can
work together to arrive at movie titles.
Multiplex
Players: More than Four Players
Level: Any Cineplexity
Players
In order to win the game, a player must have won
at least one Cineplexity Card from EACH of the nine
categories: Actors, Characters, Critiques, Genre,
Production, Props, Scenes, Setting and Theme.
