Cineplexity is a new Party game from Out Of The Box.
Cineplexity is a game of movie match-making. Quick
and easy rules make this game simple to learn and fun
to play.
Being somewhat of a movie collector myself I found
this game both fun and challenging. The rules are very
simple, players, or teams, take turns. A “director” draws
two cards. Each card is one of several categories,
such as Setting, Actor, Character, Genre, Props, Theme,
etc. So the director may draw a Character card, “Teenager” and
a Setting card, “Swimming Pool”. Now the
players or teams have to be the first to come up with
a movie that has both those elements in it. Fast Times
at Ridgemont High is an acceptable answer, but not
the only one. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off would
also work. The challenge is coming up with a movie
that fits and beating the other players to it. It’s
not always easy. In our game, we drew two cards; Genre “Musical”,
and Critique “A Guy Movie”. Obviously,
we had to pass. Once a movie is spoken or the round
passes, then the next player or team assumes the director’s
chair while the others get a chance to play. The director
is essentially the player who draws the cards and doesn’t
play that round. However, he has final say over if
a movie qualifies or not. At the beginning, set a point
total. The first to score that many points wins.
Another element that I’ve picked up on while
playing this game with friends is the versatile nature
of this game. We’ve come up with plenty of alternate
rules and game styles, including a scrabble-like approach.
Rather than trying to blurt out an answer, players
get an allotted amount of time like two minutes for
instance. Now, players try and write down as many movies
that come to mind that contain both subjects. Or, for
further difficulty, try three cards, and come up with
a movie containing all three subjects. You can also
visit the website for Tournament Rules and Variations.
In conclusion,
If you love party games, and think you have viewed
a generous portion of movies, then Cineplexity is
for you.
