| Tournament Set-Up and Rules |
| 1. |
Participants should be assigned to boards
to provide balance with respect to age and gender. Try
to separate people who know each so they will not dominate
a game. |
| 2. |
The number of players assigned to each
board should be as equal as possible in order to provide
similar game experiences. For example, if there are 6
players, there should be two games of three players rather
than one four-person game and one two-person game. |
| 3. |
In the case of a three-person game, players
should draw to determine their positions. The middle person
then determines whether they would prefer to play the
official 3-player "split camp" rules, or the Free
Companies Variation (sometimes called the "Mercenary"
Variation). |
| 4. |
Players should draw pieces to determine
who goes first. The person who draws the highest piece
goes first and play proceeds clockwise. |
| 5. |
Please note the following rules variation
for Bosworth tournament play
- When you capture an opponent's King, you are rewarded
with any one of your previously captured pieces (your
choice), rather than your opponent's Queen. All other
rules remain the same |
| 6. |
The number of players to advance to the
final round depends on the number of players in the tournament.
The goal is to have three or four players in the final
round. For example, if there are eight players, the first
and second place winners from each of the two first round
games advance to the final round. If there are nine players,
there would be three first round games and only the first
place winner from each of these games would advance to
the final round. |
| 7. |
The order of finish is determined by the
order in which players are eliminated from the final game.
First place goes to the last surviving king; second place
goes to the last king eliminated from the game; and third
place goes to the second from the last king eliminated
from the game. |
| 8. |
Winners earn the respect of fellow Bosworth
players worldwide for their wisdom, insight and cunning,
and are expected uphold this honored position with grace
and generosity. |
