I recently played this game with a group
of 12 people made up of both males and females. Once
I explained the rules that we would each take turns
being the judge deciding what card best matches the
category for that turn, the cards started to fly. Since
there is a rule to speed up placing cards, (last one
in has to take back their card) I found it difficult
to take the time needed to think about what would be
the funniest match. Often I was left with extra cards
at the end of the turn, and no opportunity to influence
the judge's decision. Quite a different experience compared
to playing the scaled down version in Iowa (See previous
posted Apples to Apples review). Luckily I was not playing
to win, since it is often considered bad manners to
have the host win all the rounds. Instead, I was asked
to be the card dealer and tie breaker when time was
running short. That is when the game went into sudden
death, narrowing the semi-finalists down from four to
two. To make the game more enjoyable for those in the
final round, I spoke of the pros and cons of why a particular
answer card should be the winner. Then I had the group
(minus the two semi-finalists) vote on the winning card.
What a blast!
